That evening Sahasra, a college-going girl, is alone at home. Her family had gone on a pilgrimage. Family consisting of a mealy-mouthed father, icy-cold stepmother, affectionate stepbrother and adoring little stepsister. Sahasra had grown up in a village with her divorced mother and had to come to the city for college. She also does a bit of chorus singing that helps out on expenses, and holds the dream of earning enough to bring her mother to the city. On this eventful evening her friend, Swetha, drags her along to a party. There Sahasra’a soft drink is laced with a drug by one of the boys. A woozy Sahasra leaves the party midway.
She wakes up normally next day and goes to college. A few days’ later, strange things start happening to her. When she goes to a film with her little sister and friends, a man standing next to her is stabbed. A taxi driver, whom she had never met, accosts her and says she owes him Rs. 360. She keeps bumping into him intriguingly. An unknown assailant attacks her in a basement parking lot with a truncheon. In a crowded street, a bunch of rowdy-sheeters try to kidnap her at knife point.
Totally unnerved and clueless about the life-threatening danger pouncing on her from unexpected quarters, she goes to a Sub-Inspector of Police for help. And during his questioning a mind-numbing realization dawns on her. She doesn’t remember how she got home from the party. And the day she woke up and went to college was not the next day. It was the day after! One day was missing in her life. And what happened that day held the key to life and death.
With the help of the taxi driver (who plies an illegal cab like a mini bus, packing in people like sardines) and the Sub-Inspector (who is actually under suspension for accepting a bride), the pieces of the jigsaw slowly fall into place, even as the attempts on her become more bizarre and unpredictable. The picture that emerges from that puzzling night leaves them incredulous. And helpless, as the mindless evil that is hunting her defies solution. Police action is not an answer. What they come up with in blind desperation and raw courage forms the climax of this highly plausible, hence frightening, tale.
